The Bavarian Lodge and Restaurant is at mid-mountain in Taos Ski Valley, in Northern New Mexico Northern New Mexico offers wonderful weather in both winter and summer and a range of recreational and cultural and activities that has made the area famous as a vacation destination for all ages and interests.

Taos Ski Valley, located within the Kit Carson National Forest, has a laid back mountain ambiance that combines the best of the American West and the Swiss and German Alps. The Bavarian (10,200 feet above sea level) is at the end of the road and at the base of the Kachina Mountain Ski Lift. Beyond the Bavarian, there is nothing but great ski terrain and the pristine Wheeler Peek Wilderness area.

After several years of discussion, the Village of Taos Ski Valley has adopted the initial aspects of a Master Plan for the phased development of Kachina Village, centered on The Bavarian. In support of this Master Plan, the present property owners in Kachina are dedicated to creating a village that embodies the highest standards of environmental sensitivity and historically appropriate architecture that blends into the wilderness.

With the introduction of the Bavarian Chalets, high alpine wilderness residences are now available for purchase. Owners will enjoy full hotel services from The Bavarian, but in the private environment of a ski/in-ski/out residence. For individual owners that wish to offer all or part of their residence for rental when away, The Bavarian provides turn-key services.

Surrounded by national forest, the only land available for development are old mining claims that were grandfathered into the national forest in the 19th Century. Therefore, at maturity, Kachina Village will accommodate no more than about 250 families. Unlike so many beautiful ski areas, Kachina can't sprawl.

While truly in the wilderness, The Bavarian is only about 30 minutes above the ancient, multicultural town of Taos and two hours north of Santa Fe, New Mexico's historic state capital. Another hour to the south is Albuquerque, a bustling commercial center and the regional hub for air travel.

Santa Fe and Taos are high desert communities (approximately 7000 feet above sea level) that are in the valley of the sacred Sangre de Cristo Range of the Southern Rocky Mountains. Cutting through this high desert is the breathtaking Rio Grande River Gorge.

New Mexico is The Land of Enchantment, blending Native American, Hispanic and Anglo cultures. Many of the state's 19 pueblos are open to the public. Santa Fe and Taos have been centers of culture for thousands of years and were important trading posts during the Spanish colonial period and the settling of the American West. Since the late 19th Century, these small, adobe communities have attracted artists, writers, natural healers and other creative people from throughout the world.

Today, Santa Fe is a major art center, the home of the renowned Santa Fe Opera and a highly acclaimed vacation and second home destination. Taos has retained the spirit of an earlier era and the eclectic mix of the cultures that defines the American Southwest. Taos remains an authentic community of remarkable museums, galleries, Native American Festivals, and the full range of outdoor activities including, golf, tennis, world class fly fishing, horseback excursions, rafting, rock climbing, balloon rides and much, much more.
