DEVELOPMENT PRINCIPALS

The Bavarian Inn and Chalets

The Development Team is a joint venture between Thomas and Jamie Schulze, the owners of The Bavarian, which is the hospitality operator, and Blue Ridge Development LLC, an experienced developer of historic and environmentally sensitive projects.

Blue Ridge (and its predecessor companies) has been involved in projects of relevance to the creation of the Bavarian Inn & Chalets and Kachina Village for thirty years. Among these projects are:

• The restoration and sensitive expansion of an early 19th C. commercial building housing the US Post Office in Litchfield, Connecticut at a time when the Post Office was considering a new location outside of the center of the community. This project resulted in a new long term lease with the Postal Service and the continued presence of the Post Office in the center of this historic town has contributed toward the ongoing vitality of the center of town, attracting new businesses and maintaining essential services in the center of the community. Litchfield, Connecticut has been described by the National Trust for Historic Preservation as "the finest living example of Colonial and Federal America".

• The restoration of two 19th C. townhouses that are designated New York City landmark districts.

• The restoration of the home of former Governor Oliver Wolcott, Sr. in Litchfield. This house was built in 1753 and is a National Historic Landmark. Governor Wolcott was one of Washington's generals and a signer of the American Declaration of Independence. Important visitors to the Oliver Wolcott, Sr. house have been many, beginning with George Washington, Alexander Hamilton and the Marquis de Lafayette.

• The sensitive re-development of a former children's summer camp on approximately 400 acres surrounding a private lake in Kent, Connecticut As a planned community. The resulting small community is now home to 15 families, with the balance of the land preserved for posterity. The lake continues to be considered one of the cleanest lake in the as a result of the efforts of the community and the environmental restrictions of the Property Owners Association that were authored in conjunction with the development plan.

• The reconstruction and renovation of a 35,000 square foot 19th Century lumber yard in the center of Litchfield, Connecticut as professional and retail condominiums. This project received an award from The Greater Litchfield Preservation Trust for "outstanding historic restoration and preservation".

The managing principals of Blue Ridge are Bruce W. Schnitzer and Michael P. Keilty. Mr. Schnitzer is a Director of The Litchfield Hills Greenprint. Mr. Keilty is a founder of the Morris Land Trust and a past president of the Litchfield Land Trust. Both were founders of the Pan African Conservation Trust (now a part of Tusk Trust.
